Abdulla A Alawadi

Kuwaiti architect, artist and designer Abdullah Al Awadi obtained a professional degree in Architecture and Photography and a Master’s in Urban Design and Town Planning at Miami University in Florida. A theatre aficionado, Abdulla worked for three years as assistant director, costume designer and makeup artist for Pangaea Productions in Miami. In Kuwait, he has earned a reputation for himself as a costume designer and choreographer—having served as Assistant Director and Artistic Adviser at the Sulaiman Al Bassam Theater.

His exhibitions include two solo digital art exhibitions at Dar Al Funoon, a photography exhibition at Bayt Lothan, a jewellery exhibition for The Sultan Gallery, several art exhibitions at The Hub gallery and a solo art exhibition in Nova Art, all of which are reputable art venues in Kuwait. Abdulla has participated in many group exhibitions locally and abroad as well.

He contributed to Bashar Al-Shatti’s last two albums as co-photographer and art director. He was also a participant in the Watermill summer program with Robert Wilson during the summer program of 2010 and 2011.

Abdulla is one of the collaborators in the Kuwaiti pavilion in the Venice Biennale 2014. He launched his first carpet collection of samovar carpets in 2015. He returned to the Biennale in 2016 as part of a group exhibition of international artists with his carpet “Shoug”.

In the year 2016, Abdulla was also a Finalist at the Harper’s Bazaar Arabia emerging designer of the year.

Presently, Abdulla teaches in the College of Architecture of Kuwait University, where he has been teaching for x years, and he now spends his time planning events, designing, and contributing as Art Advisor for several advertising agencies.
