Mervat Abou Oaf is a Full Professor of Practice and Chair of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department (JRMC) at the Global Affairs and Public Policy School (GAPP) at the American University in Cairo (AUC).
Academically, Abou Oaf has designed the Mass Media Law and Policy course and has been teaching it to graduate and undergraduate students, as a core course for the Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC) Department majors and the Public Policy Graduate Concentration at the School of GAPP/AUC. Besides she has taught classes in different disciplines in: ‘Multimedia Journalism’ as well as ‘Communication and Media Arts (CMA)’ where she teaches a variety of courses other thank the Media Law and Policy course, namely: Global Media; Introduction to Mass Communication; Advanced and Investigative Reporting Writing for Print Media; Print Editing; Editing Wire News; Writing for Broadcast (TV & Radio); Writing News Releases and Newsletters; Writing Feature Stories; Advocacy Writing; Communication Law; International Communication; Press Theories; Media Ethics; Media in Middle East & North Africa (MENA); together with workshops for Communication Skills, Negotiation Skills and Presentation Skills. She had co-chaired in the organizing committee of the Arab and United State Association for Communication Educators AUSACE international conference that is held in the year 2009 in Egypt and hosted by AUC.
