Salah Khalil is a social entrepreneur with a specific interest in education, employability, the future of work and the 21 st century skills. He is the founder of Macat International Limited, a unique venture set up in the United Kingdom to preserve human intelligence in the age of AI. Macat works to measure and develop critical thinking and other 21st Century skills. The Company defines critical thinking as the component skills of problem solving, analysis, creative thinking, interpretation, evaluation and reasoning or PACIER. He is also the founder of The Alexandria Trust, a London-based charity dedicated to restoring world-class education in the Arab region. The Charity supports innovative projects that respond to the demonstrable needs in the region and have the potential to bring about a step-change in educational quality and access. Underpinning this work is his vision for a new era of philanthropy in the Arab world – catalytic philanthropy to support a step-change in education – that grew out of his extensive experience in the areas of business, political reform, institutional change, and philanthropy. Born in Egypt he played an active role in Egyptian politics before working for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and studying for a Masters in political sociology at the LSE. He lives in London and is married with four children.
