Sherine Hamed El Sharkawy

Mrs. Sherine El Sharkawy is the First Deputy Minister of Finance for Economic Affairs. She is entrusted with various responsibilities in relation to economic issues but also extending to the issuance of sovereign guarantees as well as loans provided to the Ministry of Finance and is involved in active negotiations with various counterparties and financial institutions in this respect. She spearheaded the work on the Egypt’s first Islamic/conventional loan and on the second Islamic/green loan as well as the issuance of the Samurai Bond among other responsibilities. She is also involved in proposed commercial solutions for various disputes with external parties as well as resolving various entanglements within government entities. She was also part of the team responsible for the Finance Day during COP27, handling various financing solutions to encourage green/ sustainable initiatives. She is an experienced corporate banker and financier. In addition to having worked as a corporate banker, she also held various roles in direct investment and private equity as well as the advisory fields.
Prior to being the First Deputy Minister of Finance for Economic Affairs, she held various advisory and consulting work in addition to holding full time positions at Ahli United bank of Egypt, Concord International Investments and Commercial International Bank.
She is a representing the Ministry of Finance in the board of the Central Bank of Egypt as well as a member of the Board of the Egyptian Sovereign Fund.
Mrs. Sherine El Sharkawy holds an MA degree in Finance and Investment with distinction from Exeter University in the United Kingdom since July 1998. She obtained her BA degree in Economics in June 1990 from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
