Shahira Amin is an independent journalist based in Cairo. She is the Egypt contributor to Index on Censorship, a free expression portal and a consultant with UN Women and UNIDO. Former Deputy Head of state-run Nile TV, she quit her job at the height of the 2011 uprising in protest at censorship of her work.
She is also a longtime contributor to CNN’s Inside Africa filing stories from the North Africa region. Shahira has won several international awards including Spain’s Anguita Parrado award for free expression and the Global Thinkers Forum Excellence in promoting gender equity.
