Marwa Abbas is a visionary leader with over 30 years of experience in the technology industry, currently serving as the General Manager and Technology Leader at IBM Egypt. She began her career at IBM in 1994, demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication as she progressed through various impactful executive roles across Egypt and Middle East and Africa.
In 2013, Marwa spearheaded the launch of the first MEA Digital Sales Center, showcasing her innovative approach and deep understanding of digital transformation. Her outstanding performance and strategic acumen led to her appointment as the first female General Manager for IBM Egypt in January 2022, a testament to her leadership and impact in the industry.
Under Marwa’s strategic leadership, IBM has worked on expanding the operations of its centers of excellence in Egypt which provide a full range of business consulting, cross-industry expertise, and skills development.
She also plays a pivotal role in driving strategies and initiatives aimed at leveraging the latest industry technologies particularly in the field of generative AI, to develop innovative use cases and applications across the public and private sectors in the Egyptian market.
As part of her dedication to upskilling Egyptian talents, Marwa established several initiatives that align with IBM’s global commitment to provide 30 million individuals globally with necessary skills for future jobs by 2030. Her dedication to empowering women in tech and fostering innovation makes her a driving force in the technology industry, shaping the future of work and digital transformation in Egypt.
In 2024, Marwa received the Top 50 Most Influential Women Award by Top 50 Women Forum and Amwal Al Ghad Awards Ceremony, a testament to her dedication to advancing the industry and her commitment to serving as a positive role model for women in the technology field.
Marwa holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and an MBA from The American University in Cairo, underscoring her strong academic background. Marwa is currently an independent board member at Beltone Holding. She is also a certified board director from the IFC World Bank Group, highlighting her commitment to excellence and governance.
