Inspired by their cultural roots, Aya and Mounaz AbdelRaouf -, two sisters came together to revive history through minimalistic designs. Coming from a family of artists, coupled with their love for fashion and design, together they created Okhtein, or two sisters in Arabic, to show people that the city of Cairo can be a great source of inspiration. The theme of their first collection was based on the Fatimid Dynasty, called “Fatimid Facades”. In less than a year Okhtein gained recognition throughout the MENA region and Europe. Working with NGO’s and small villages to help women in debt, Okhtein also tries to encourage Egyptian local craftsmanship and artistry.
