Denis Darpy was appointed President of the Université Française d’Egypte in Cairo in September 2020. He is in charge of nurturing a close dialogue with partners from the industrial and economic world and developing Franco-Egyptian laboratories for cutting-edge research in fields of common interest to France and Egypt. His appointment was made in the framework of the agreement for the refoundation of the University, signed by the French and Egyptian governments, which aims to strengthen the national, regional and international attractiveness of the University and to train high-level graduates and researchers who can meet the new socio-economic challenges.
Previously he was a University Professor at the Université Paris-Dauphine-PSL, which he joined in 1999 and has experience in the micro-computer industry, that he joined with Microsoft in Seattle in 1985.
Since 2016, as a member of the University’s Management Committee, he was Dean of the Graduate School in Organizational Sciences, with 4,000 students. He founded the luxury management master at Dauphine as well has initiated the “Mode et Matières” Master at PSL between Dauphine, Mines Paris Tech and ENSAD (Arts Décos). He also contributed to the international influence of the University. He founded the multi-campus master’s degree in management in Europe, Asia and Africa (2018), developed, with world-class universities, training programs in Beijing and Shanghai (2017) especially around fashion and creative industries.
He is the author or co-author of books, academic articles and case studies, and is also a thesis director and collection director (Editions Management et Société).
