Dr. Nabila Hassan Salam is a prominent Egyptian academic and artist, currently serving as President of the Academy of Arts since February 2026. She is a professor of acting and directing at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and holds a PhD from the Autonomous University of Madrid in Spain, where she specialised in directing techniques in children’s theatre. Throughout her career, she has held several key academic and administrative positions, including Dean of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Alexandria and Head of the Acting Department. Dr. Nabila Hassan is widely recognised for her significant contributions to both the artistic and academic fields, having trained and mentored generations of creatives, with a strong focus on aligning arts education with the needs of the cultural and creative industries.
During her presidency, she has also been involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening the presence of the arts in public spaces, most notably the “Art Street” initiative, launched under the patronage of the Prime Minister, which aims to bring artistic activities out of traditional venues and into open spaces in downtown Cairo, fostering direct engagement between artists and the public and revitalising the role of art in everyday life.
