Gihan El Shamashergy

After a painful experience during the protests in the Egyptian revolution, She decided that she needed to further explore her artistic talent and pursue it as a career; and although her academic background is English Literature, she always had a passion for craftsmanship and her eagerness led her to look for a place where she could learn how to make jewelry under supervision of a good old silver and gold smith for five months. Since then she has developed her skills gradually in a rather fast pace and taught herself many techniques, and to this day, she successfully made over 500 jewelry pieces of all kinds and shapes and displayed them in various exhibitions around Egypt, most of which have been sold.

Now she has a studio where she designs and makes jewelry and handicrafts. She didn’t want to stop there, she has given a workshop for 15 ladies and a gentleman in South Egypt, who now pass the knowledge to other people through a community built workspace.

In the past months, she has studied sustainable development through various educational platforms; and her next step is self education along with giving more workshops in the villages of Egypt; also working on the plan of establishing an art school that aims to support lifelong learning for all-round personal development and practical application in sustainable community improvement.
